Description

Technical responsibility for structural aspects of ongoing projects, study work and tenders.

Provide Structural Engineering support to other PDi business units.

Develop core competency and experience of Structural department.

Authority

  • Perform technical audits and design reviews.
  • Responsible for Structural Engineering discipline input.
  • Check/Approve engineering documents and data.
  • Supervise personnel assigned.

  • Graduate Structural Engineer,
  • Structural Engineer,
  • Senior Structural Engineer

Competency Required

  • Proficient in Legislation and Standards as relevant for the area of responsibility
  • Coach/Mentor & provide Technical guidance to Engineers/Draftsman
  • Computer Literacy and Correct Use of Structural Analysis Software – Mathcad / Excel / STAAD/ STRAND 7 etc
  • Familiar with Safety, Compliance with Statutory Requirements, Hazard and Risk Assessment
  • Understand and Implement Cost Control
  • Coach/Mentor & provide Technical guidance to Engineers/Draftsman
  • Create, implement and manage a suite of working procedures for the discipline department.

Experience Required

  • Relevant working experience in a Structural Engineering.
  • General knowledge of project management and project administration.
  • Acquainted in Legislation and Standards as relevant for the area of responsibility.

Qualifications Required

  • University Degree with relevant experience and Chartered Engineer
  • Extensive relevant working experience

Responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this position are as follows:

Management:

  • Day-to-day management (technical, personnel and financial) of the Structural Engineering discipline.
  • Regular meetings with the Structural Engineering team
  • Support with management reporting and meetings.

Operations:

  • Be expected to develop ideas from the concept stage through design, drawing, fabrication, testing and eventual delivery to the worksite.
  • Be responsible for approving Engineering solutions & ensuring that the design is suitable and fit for purpose.
  • Providing Project Teams with guidance & support when dealing with Clients/Third Parties
  • Be responsible for approval of Engineering documents prepared by other engineers in projects, studies or tender work.
  • Ensuring check and approval process of project deliverables is carried out in a timely manner
  • Perform technical audits and design reviews with or on behalf of the management

Personnel:

  • Ensure competence of deputies and ensure that the discipline has up-to-date competency assessments.
  • Developing and retaining motivated and competent people. Proactive in the development and training of graduate engineers

BD & Client Relations:

  • The Lead Structural Engineer may from time to time be required to provide technical support for the purpose of bid preparation or business plan development.
  • Provide input to sales and marketing activities (capability statements, presentations, case studies, attendance at conferences, etc.).
  • Maintain close relationships with existing customers in order to promote the business units’ interests.
